The History

The Reaper Bar is being held in the newly refurbished Tropicana on Weston-super-Mare’s seafront. The Tropicana is an iconic feature of Weston-super-Mare’s seafront, having been built in 1937 and used as a lido for many years until it closed in 2000. In 2015 the world renowned graffitti artist, Banksy, took over the site and created Dismaland, attracting over 150,000 people and re-energising this historic building.

It has since undergone a £500,000 renovation to improve the interior space.

In July 2016, the inaugural Hazy Days Music and Arts Festival took place and the concept of using the space for entertainment in the form of live music was reignited. Since then, the team from Hazy Days and the North Somerset Events Team have worked closely together to deliver a range of musical evenings and develop the interior space even further – thus The Reaper Bar was born.

The Venue

The Reaper Bar (named after the dodgem-riding Grim Reaper of Dismaland) is a 450 person-capacity event space with an amazing industrial feel. The decor includes flaming torches, branded artwork and a multi-leveled viewing space. With a fully-licensed bar, clean toilets and wash facilities, free convenient parking directly outside (for all Reaper events) and a unique atmosphere, we are striving for a venue unlike any other in Weston.

Alongside this we also have the amazing ‘Wall Stage’- a 1000 person standing capacity room adjoining The Reaper Bar.   This room will be the future of The Reaper Bar events, with the ability to host touring acts from all forms of entertainment. This lends itself also to corporate events which we will be able to cater for with supply of audio-visual equipment, staging and event management.

Below is a short video showing the expansive scale of the interior space at the Tropicana from 2016. Since this video was taken we have made a number of improvements to the rooms and we’ll be updating the video very soon to show you the work that is being carried out to improve the whole venue:

Touring Bands

We are striving to create a venue that musical acts want to play at. The team is made up of mostly musicians who understand the importance of creating the right atmosphere for bands to perform and taking away a positive experience from a night at The Reaper Bar. We offer bands a ‘Green Room’, a full sound and light team and use of quality tour-grade equipment (EAW 12k rig with LAB Gruppen power). We market our events professionally and target a wide audience with our promotional activities. We are looking to build the reputation of the venue with original and unique music as well as appreciating the wealth of cover/tribute bands.
